I got it all fixed and got my account back yesterday night. It was ridiculous that I got banned for 5 days for this. I had filled out their chargeback form twice and they never reached out to me. So I decided to go through the chat bot for "help with returning a game" which thankfully got me to a chat with a support agent who helped me fix it. I figure I would have been banned for a very long time had I not done this. And there is no doubt that Sony was mostly interested in getting there money back rather than countering "fraud". They didn't care if I reversed the chargeback. They said tell you bank to withhold that payment. Psn card was the only way to fix it which seemed bizarre. They could have easily prevented fraud by revoking access to the games involved in the transaction and blocking future purchases from my account until things were sorted out.
glad it's sorted for you OP.

I bet such a button does not exist in their system, probably for similar reasons to why name changing was so difficult for them. They could have easily prevented fraud by revoking access to the games involved in the transaction and blocking future purchases from my account until things were sorted out.
They're not under the same pressure to implement features like this compared to valve as consoles are a closed eco system.

Exactly.A chargeback does not instantly equal fraud.A chargeback is a tool to combat fraud.
If a charge is made without authorization, or a product is defective and a return refused, a chargeback is a valid solution for a consumer to be made whole.
Anyone who says a chargeback is easy fraud has never done a chargeback. You don't just call the bank and say gimmie!
You have to fill out forms under penalty of perjury. You have to detail why the charge is fraudulent. And the merchant has the same opportunity to show why the charge is valid.
A chargeback is basically a mini arbitration with the bank acting as arbitrator and decided who is entitled to the funds. If the bank suspects that a cardholder is attempting a fraudulent claim, it's not going to end well.
It's there for you to use when all else failed and you need a resolution.
It's there for your protection. If you were scammed or you can't get anyone to help you...use it. You either pay or you don't after they investigate.
- #704
I'm not defending the entire thing, but I feel like it's pretty well known that if you charge back your gonna have beef with that company moving forward.
- #705
Ha, that's true. Going off the thread about folks being denied refunds for Cyberpunk it's clear that their systems aren't great. You assume Sony's systems are a lot more sophisticated than they actually are. Glad this got sorted. Falls in line with other's stories I've heard in the past.
Anyway glad OP got things sorted.

They can't even setup their web-based store properly. I can't imagine they'd have proper hooks in place to handle anything else in a decent manner.I got it all fixed and got my account back yesterday night. They really REALLY need some good competition this generation to force it.

How does Valve deal with chargebacks? I was under the impression that everyone in the industry freezes your account the moment it happens until you repay!I bet such a button does not exist in their system, probably for similar reasons to why name changing was so difficult for them.

They restrict by affecting only the content in question.
- #709
It's my understanding that valve has a very granular system where they can restrict/ban only specific functionalty in your account depending on the situation/violation.How does Valve deal with chargebacks? Yet I don't know when it came back, but it's fine now.
Always was a mysterious situation to me.

So your account wasn't permanently suspended?
- #712
Looks like he had to deal with them 3 times, otherwise it may have been.So your account wasn't permanently suspended?
- #713
It was according to their messaging and email. But they have a reversal policy for chargebacks. So your account wasn't permanently suspended?

This time my account literally got suspended for no reason. There is no chargeback. Fuck Sony and fuck there insanely anti consumer policies.
You keep blaming Sony yet you used your parents credit card without permission and made Sony think fraud had been committed by asking for a chargeback.
- #718
Nope. One the phone with them right now. They don't know what's going on either. They think it might be a older payment from the same credit card but they have me on hold right now. And the only way I got in contact with them was through PS5 support transferring to me to PS4 support. Sony seriously sucks as ass. I am not making a single digital purchase from PSN ever again. And I am going to go out of my way to buy used copies of all future Sony published games. I plan on buying a used PS5 too. I don't mind waiting 3-4 years for a PS5 either.Sorry it happened, but they(or anyone) don't just ban people for no reason, makes no business sense to lose good paying customers. Maybe still residue due to your initial charge back?
- #719

I would hope you learn from this and are able to get the account back, but you seem to not want to take any responsibility for putting yourself in this situation.
Edit:
Oh I see they reinstated and then banned you again. Contact them and pray

Well, if they're not sure what caused it this time, chances are they might reverse the ban again. If they do, I would say remove the credit card and only use PSN credit.

Why are you still buy it in to their ecosystem? just leave it, buy other console or a pc.

- #724
Does Sony do the same thing in Europe? Because banning an entire account with purchases seems in violation with consumer rights in the EU. If you buy something you can't be denied acces to it for some irrelevant reason.
Of course they do. If you break any terms including chargebacks or being abusive to other PSN members then you won't have access to your purchases when you are banned.
- #725
Because I like the games developed by their developers. Either way I plan on purchasing everything used from Sony going forward. I know they won't be profiting from me if I buy a used PS5 down the line and buy all their games used. Why are you still buy it in to their ecosystem? just leave it, buy other console or a pc.

You do you mate.
- #727
Which is complete bullshit and should not be legal for them to do. It probably isn't legal, but no-one has the means to pursue it through court. If the laws allow it, the laws should be changed.Of course they do. If you break any terms including chargebacks or being abusive to other PSN members then you won't have access to your purchases when you are banned.
- #728
This is why it got banned...My mom had it reversed the day after it had happened. The PlayStation support guy told me to call the bank and keep the original chargeback since I had to pay through psn card.
It's probably automatic when a charge back happens.
You did a charge back
Got banned
Had it reversed
Told bank no never mind
Did a charge back again technically
Banned again. Most likely automatically.
I know they told you to leave it but since it was removed and redone it probably was automatic. Shouldn't have done anything with you bank until Sony fixed it
